Let’s Start with ABC: Teaching Phonics Virtually to Adult ESL Learners
Date: Wednesday, July 15, 2020
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT (Not sure what time this is in your time zone? Click here to convert it!)
Cost: There is no fee for this training, but your tax-deductible donation will support our tutor training program and literacy learners across Minnesota!
Description: Phonics is a crucial part of becoming a reader, yet many adult ESL learners lack sufficient decoding skills to be able to sound out and recognize new words, and don’t get adequate phonics instruction in their beginning level classes. In this webinar, you’ll learn phonics activities to help learners with blending, segmenting, and developing phonemic awareness skills. Participants will leave with multiple activities they can use in one-on-one virtual tutoring or online classes, as well as suggestions for making phonics relevant and engaging to learners.
CEUs will be emailed to participants after the webinar, typically within 1-2 business days. Webinars are not recorded, but please check literacymn.org/volunteer-trainings for additional sessions.
**This training is for current volunteers or for those who would like to learn more about the topic. Due to COVID-19, there are currently few openings for new volunteers. Please check back for opportunities in the fall.**
