Adapting Curriculum for Adult ESL Remote Teaching

Description: The transition to remote tutoring offers a variety of rewards and challenges. In this workshop, learn recommendations for adapting an existing volunteer curriculum written for in-person instruction into a remote teaching format (WhatsApp will be modeled for one-to-one tutoring, Zoom will be modeled for small group instruction). The presenter will demonstrate approaches for introducing vocabulary, grammar, and a reading text on a phone or computer, and will model adaptations for common ESL classroom activities. Participants will receive a handout that includes recommendations for building in class routines, an adapted lesson planning template, and activity instructions.
CEUs will be emailed to participants after the webinar, typically within 1-2 business days. Webinars are not recorded, but please check literacymn.org/volunteer-trainings for additional sessions.
