Islamophobia in the United States

Date: Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. CST (Not sure what time this is in your time zone? Click here to convert it!)

Cost: There is no fee for this training, but your tax-deductible donation will support our tutor training program and literacy learners across Minnesota!

Description: Muslim-Americans have been part of the fabric of the United States for centuries. Yet the religion of Islam and those who identify as Muslim continue to be misunderstood, misrepresented, and targeted. This session will cover some of the core principles of Islam, its geographical impact, and the daily experiences of Muslim-Americans. Common stereotypes of Islam will also be addressed. Our time will also focus on Somali-Americans living in Minnesota, including the results of a qualitative narrative research on the impact of the dominant culture on young Somali-American women living in Southeast Minnesota.

CEUs will be emailed to participants after the webinar, typically within 1-2 business days. Webinars are not recorded, but please check literacymn.org/volunteer-trainings for additional sessions.

This workshop meets the Literacy Minnesota Social Justice in Education Certificate Program requirements. Learn more about the certificate program at https://www.literacymn.org/social-justice-in-education-certificate-program.
